Professor Floya Anthias has researched and published extensively in the
field of ethnic and gender studies. Her work spans the following areas:
theorising gender, race and class; new approaches to social stratification;
ethnic minorities in the labour market; ethnic small entrepreneurship
in Britain; ethnic minority women; exclusion and identity amongst British
born Cypriots and Asians; self-employment of women; diasporic relationships
and the Cypriot diaspora.
Her research interests also cover the following areas: Transnationalism,
Transnational and trans-border crossings, Population movements, Migration
theory, Human Rights and Global Citizenship, Multiculturalism, Political
identities, Social Theory, Cultural Theory, Social Inequalities,
Her research projects have included the following:
- Ethnic minority women in Greenwich: connections between gender, class
and race, (Thames Polytechnic grant), 1988-1992
·- Exclusion and Identity amongst British born Cypriots and Asians
(UK Higher Education Funding Council, University of Greenwich, 1994-1998).
·- The Cypriot Diaspora (Inter-University Research Committee on
Cyprus grant),
·- Gender and Migration in Southern Europe.
She was the leader of the British team in the EU funded TSER-project:
“Self-employment activities of women and minorities: their success
or failure in relation to social citizenship policies”, 1997-2000.
Prof Anthias is on the editorial Board of the European Journal of Women’s
Studies.
