Professor Ron Ayres has been teaching in the university sector since 1968,
firstly at the University of Coventry and subsequently at the University
of Greenwich. He was the Director of Postgraduate Studies in the School
of Social Sciences for several years and is now Head of Economics. Professor
Ayres has considerable experience as an external examiner and external
specialist advisor to other universities. He is a member of the Royal
Economic Society’s Conference of Heads of University Departments
of Economics, is joint editor of Greenwich Papers in Political Economy
and a founder member of the Greenwich Local Economy Unit.
Professor Ayres is an active researcher and the author or editor /co-author
of a number of books and many articles in refereed journals. Professor Ayres
is currently researching educational attainment in Tamil Nadu, economic
and social exclusion in South Africa and a number of issues related to
the economic restructuring in the local economy of Greenwich including:
database construction and analysis of small businesses; and the dynamics
of local the local economy and firm performance.
