Curriculum vitae Christine Catarino
Christine Catarino ph.D in sociology (I.E.D.E.S, University of Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne, 1999) - for which she received the financial support of the Praxis XXI program (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) - was about the social insertion of Capeverdean and Angolan immigrants in Portugal. In this framework, and from 1996 to 1998, she conducted a field research in the suburbs of Lisbon collecting qualitative data in three fields of study (labour, racism and interethnic relations and relations between men and women within the family) in the perspective of articulating three criteria of social division: class, ethnicity and gender.

In 2000, she has been qualified for the admission to the corps of university lecturers in France. She notably worked in 1994 at the INED (Paris) within the framework of the project Mobilité Géographique et Insertion Sociale (Geographic Mobility and Social Insertion) under the direction of Michèle Tribalat. She carried out documentary and statistical research on the subject of immigration in France and produced an annex about matrimonial practices in Arabo-muslim regions and in emigration which appeared in the final report. She has been actively involved in the French association Femmes et Développement (Women and Development).

Representing this association, she notably organized and presented a workshop on Women as Heads of the Family at the NGO Forum on Women (Beijing '95, China). She has been the co-authoress of the "La Revue des Revues" section of the Migrations Société French review in 1996/97. Her areas of investigation include gender studies, inter-ethnic relations and female-headed households.
