Professor Mirjana Morokvasic-Müller, taught at the Université
de Lille III from 1970 to 1979 and has since worked as a senior researcher
at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris. She currently
teaches sociology of post-communist migrations at the Université
Paris X. She held the Marie-Jahoda Chair in feminist studies at the Ruhr-University
Bochum, Germany, in 1999/2000 and was visiting professor at the Institute
for Gender Studies, Ochanomizu University, Tokyo, April-October 2001.
She directed several European projects, including one sponsored by the
Commission and tought in a number of countries (France, Germany and UK
being the most significant). Her areas of research include sociology of
migration, gender studies and inter-ethnic relations. She authored a number
of texts (books and articles) in these areas published in France, Germany,
UK, USA and other countries. She was expert consultant to ILO, UNESCO,
EEC (Equal Opportunities Bureau), Council of Europe , IOM etc.
She is currently involved in several projects which explore the relationship
between nationalism, migration and gender. She is a founding member of
the international network on Women in the conflict zones, based in York,
Canada and has been actively involved in setting up of the International
Womens University Hanover 2000, where she is appointed international dean.
She is member of the expert group of the Programme National 39 (Migrations
et relations inter-ethniques), FNSR, Berne, Switzerland. She is on Editorial
Board of Current Sociology, Balkanologie, Révue d’études
comparatives est-ouest, Migration, Migrations société, Revue
d’études comparatives est-ouest.
