EthnoGeneration
A project financed by the European Research, technological development and demonstration program (RTD)

The reproduction of the inequality of chances linked to work conditions and especially also to labour division in families engaged in ethnic business was a main subject of the investigation. Moreover, based on a concept of quality of life that includes the biographical dimension, we aimed at developing a sensitive instrument for the analysis of quality of life that takes biographical and intergenerational aspects into account.

The main research steps consisted of:

  1. An overview of the existing socio-economic knowledge base and statistical data on ethnic family businesses and on the educational success of migrant children. Mapping of Competencies.
  2. Developing new perspectives on the intergenerational transfer of socio-cultural resources and the reproduction of inequality in families engaged in ethnic businesses.
  3. Comparative cross-national analysis and policy recommendations.

EthnoGeneration conducted research in the UK, in France, Denmark, Germany and Greece. The aim was to explain the current situation and to formulate recommendations for EU policy makers to improve the legal framework.
